Ryan Bernardi

Prolific Prep Head Coach

Ryan Bernardi is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and respected young coaches in high school basketball today. Since being named Head Coach of Prolific Prep in April 2022, he has guided one of the nation’s premier programs with discipline, intensity, and strategic clarity—establishing a culture defined by accountability, competitive excellence, and consistent national success.

A Boston native, Bernardi began his head coaching career at the remarkably young age of 19, launching his professional journey at Burlington Christian Academy. There, he set a school record for wins and developed the program’s first Division I collegiate player. He later elevated The Burlington School into a national powerhouse, leading the program to two state championships, a state runner-up finish, and a No. 17 national ranking on MaxPreps. Over a four-year span, Bernardi compiled an impressive 99–31 record while helping 16 student-athletes advance to the collegiate level.

Across his career, Bernardi has amassed a record of 203–46 (.815), reflecting both sustained excellence and long-term program building. His coaching résumé includes the development of seven McDonald’s All-Americans, five Nike Hoop Summit selections, five No. 1-ranked high school players, and a Naismith National Player of the Year. In 2024, Yves Missi became Bernardi’s first NBA player, earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors—marking a significant milestone in his professional coaching legacy.

Bernardi is a three-time Grind Session Coach of the Year and a two-time Naismith National Coach of the Year finalist, honors that underscore his elite player-development philosophy, tactical precision, and leadership impact. A graduate of Elon University, he is recognized not only for his success at the highest levels but also for building programs that prepare student-athletes for sustained success beyond high school.

At Prolific Prep, Ryan Bernardi is doing more than leading a nationally ranked basketball program—he is helping shape the future of high school basketball through vision, structure, and excellence.

Caleb Vanderburg

Prolific Prep Assistant Head Coach

Caleb Vanderburg brings defensive excellence, elite communication, and a championship-caliber mindset to the Prolific Prep coaching staff. As Associate Head Coach, he plays a critical role in shaping the program’s tough-minded identity, instilling discipline, and reinforcing the championship standards that define Prolific Prep basketball.

Vanderburg’s coaching partnership with Head Coach Ryan Bernardi began at The Burlington School, where the two helped elevate the program to national prominence by capturing back-to-back North Carolina state championships. Together, they established a culture built on accountability, preparation, and competitive edge—principles that continue to define their success at Prolific Prep.

Renowned for designing and implementing high-IQ, disruptive defensive systems, Vanderburg has been instrumental in developing some of the most disciplined and effective defensive units in high school basketball. His approach blends cerebral game planning with physical execution, emphasizing effort, positioning, communication, and trust. Under his guidance, teams consistently apply pressure, anticipate actions, and dictate tempo—traits essential for championship-level success.

Vanderburg began his coaching career at Elon University, where he worked with Division I athletes and learned from coaches with strong ties to nationally respected programs such as Davidson and Duke. A native of Durham, North Carolina, he brings a deep understanding of basketball culture and player development rooted in one of the sport’s most competitive regions.

A graduate of Elon University with a degree in Public Health, Vanderburg is recognized not only as a high-level basketball strategist but also as a mentor committed to holistic development. At Prolific Prep, he sets the standard for discipline, precision, and daily growth—preparing student-athletes to compete, lead, and succeed at the next level and beyond.

Matt Handy

Prolific Prep Head Assistant Coach | Director of Development

As Prolific Prep’s Lead Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development, Coach Handy serves as the architect behind the program’s individualized development system. He is the driving force behind the methodology—designing precise, research-based development plans that consistently transform high-potential prospects into next-level performers.

Coach Handy’s approach is rooted in detailed evaluation and targeted execution. Whether converting previously unranked post players into nationally ranked prospects, elevating athletes to the No. 1 ranking in their class, or increasing three-point shooting efficiency from 10% to 42%, he identifies specific areas for improvement. He attacks them with clarity, structure, and purpose. Measurable results, not theory, define his work.

With more than a decade of elite training experience, Coach Handy has worked with more than 100 professional and collegiate athletes. His résumé includes the development of two first-round NBA Draft picks, an NCAA leading scorer, ten McDonald’s All-Americans, four No. 1-ranked high school players, and a Naismith National Player of the Year. His exposure extends well beyond the prep and collegiate levels, having trained alongside and learned directly from more than 50 NBA players, including more than 10 NBA All-Stars such as Jayson Tatum, Julius Randle, Dwyane Wade, Zach LaVine, and Carmelo Anthony.

At Prolific Prep, Coach Handy’s impact extends beyond technical skill development. He is a trusted mentor and relationship builder who understands that elite performance is driven as much by confidence, mindset, and trust as it is by mechanics. Through daily training, honest communication, and individualized guidance, he helps athletes mature on and off the court.

Coach Handy is not simply developing basketball players—he is shaping futures, one rep and one conversation at a time.
